Dr. Richard Bell, Conductor

Dr. Richard Bell is the founder and conductor of the orchestra. He is in his 23rd year as a music educator in Georgia where he is highly regarded as an educator, conductor, clinician and composer. He holds bachelors and masters degrees from Florida State University and a doctoral degree from University of Georgia in Athens. After 21 years in the Clayton County Schools he began an orchestra program in the Henry County Schools at Union Grove Middle School and Union Grove High School in 2003. Dr. Bell has earned many honors and awards during his career, including: the STAR Teacher Award, the Atlanta Journal Constitution Honor Teacher Nomination and the Wal-Mart Foundation Teacher of the Year Award. H
e has been married to Angie Bell for 23 years. They have two sons - Will and Cooper.

Ed Davis, Assistant Conductor

SCSOAssistant Conductor Ed Davis has retired from teaching in public school system after 30 years of service. He is still making music though as Director of Bands at Community Christian School in Stockbridge. Mr. Davis taught in Clayton County for 21 years and in 1994, was elected Teacher of the Year at  Adamson Middle School. For the last 8 years, he taught at Austin Road Middle School in Henry County.  Mr. Davis has received numerous awards and recognitions, including: four Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association, induction into the John Philip Sousa Legion of Honor, and he and the Adamson band earned the Sudler Cup from the Sousa Foundation. He has been listed in the Who's Who Among America's Teachers on four occasions. His professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the American String Teachers Association, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.  Mr. Davis also served as President of GMEA, and is co-founder of the Tara Winds Concert Band and ENCORE! Bands under his direction have received 67 consecutive superior ratings at GMEA sponsored festivals.

Carl Rieke, Assistant Conductor

Mr. Carl Rieke holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and a Masters Degree in Instrumental Conducting from Georgia State University. Mr. Rieke was violinist in the St. Olaf College Orchestra and was music director at the Red Wing Theater Company, He has performed as violinist with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra, the Owatonna Chamber Orchestra, the New Ulm Civic Orchestra, and the Southern Crescent Orchestra. Mr. Rieke has conducted at Encore
music camp in Atlanta, the University of Georgia Music Camp, the ASTA summer camp, the Gwinnett Tapestry Festival, The Clayton County Honor Clinic and the New Ulm Suzuki Pops camp.
